The United States of America has entered a state of “federal shutdown” after Congress failed to approve a partial extension of the budget, an action that will result in work stopping across many federal departments and agencies, placing their employees on forced leave.
The White House Office of Management and Budget ordered federal agencies to begin implementing government shutdown plans following the failure of the funding bill to pass in Congress. This government shutdown, the first in nearly seven years when the country experienced the longest shutdown in its history (lasting 35 days), went into effect after Republicans failed to extend government funding beyond September 30, which marks the end of the fiscal year in the United States.
